Naples Fishing Report 10/21/10

I have been out every day this week and the fishing has been great.
The main targets this week were tarpon and bonita. The tarpon were
feeding heavy at first light on the mullet schools and then out on the
beaches in the glass minnow schools. We hooked a good amount of
tarpon, yet didn't bring any to the boat. They were anywhere from
50-150lbs and were eating both live baits and artificials. The bonita
are all over the beaches, just look for the birds. Monday I had
regular angler Paul Webb and he caught close to 20 on fly. They are
anywhere from 6-12lbs. Small spoons and flies are working the best,
but yesterday I had them eating 10" mullet intended for tarpon. Today
I had a great client and angler Tom Mckenna on the boat, we started at
7am for tarpon and he caught this huge snook on a 10" mullet. The fish
was 45" and my guess is 25lbs. It was the biggest snook of the year, I
just wish I had the good camera on the boat as the cell phone pic does
no justice. He also jumped one tarpon in the 80lb range. Look for the
action to stay hot for a while as the bait is very thick and the big
fish are hungry.
