Naples Tarpon Fishing 10/5/10

The fishing has been really good the last few weeks and it should only
get better. The only thing bad right now are the winds that won't stop
blowing. It's not messing up the fishing in the backwaters, just
making it impossible to tarpon fish off the beaches. I'm still
catching tarpon, you just have to fish select tides and spots. They
have been averaging 100lbs with some over 140lbs. Live mullet and
ladyfish have been the baits of choice for the silver king. This one
was caught this afternoon on a mullet. Snook fishing is really good
with a 25-40 fish average, just not many big fish yet. This will all
change as fish move in from the shallow water wrecks as the water
cools. Live pilchards are very easy to get and are the snook bait of
choice. Redfish are being caught daily now, some keepers and the most
little ones I've caught in years. It's a good sign to see so many
little ones being caught. The only inshore fish missing are trout and
pompano. They should be showing towards the end of the month as the
waters cool into the mid 70's. I've got a busy week, but next week is
slower and the tides are great and so is the weather. This will
probably be the last month to catch a big tarpon so don't wait to book
your trip. Give me a call and let's go fishing 239-404-6255.
