Naples Fishing 1/23/2010

Fished hard the last four days and was rewarded with great clients and great fish. If you are reading this report and have heard about the fish kills, keep reading. Don't believe everything you read online or in the papers, our paper puts out the same forecast each month as the previous year. Too many times I read it and the fishing is great here and they have somebody reporting it's horrible, being a full time fishing guide is not for everyone. These days there are a lot of guys out there getting into the business that are doing it for the wrong reasons. Fishing is a way of live for me, to make a living doing it is a dream come true. Ok back to the fishing, snook fishing is typically not a Winter time target, they like water above 70 and most Winters average 62-67. I can tell you that fish were killed, but fishing right now is excellent. Snook fishing is slow, yet I'm still catching some while targeting trout and redfish. The water temps have climbed back into the low 70's and I expect to see more snook caught as fish begin to hunt again. The trout fishing has been excellent, we most of caught close to 50 today. They have been in the 14-23in range, live shrimp on a jighead works great, DOA paddletails, and the big ones have been caught on live pilchards. Redfish have been thick in some select bays, it's a great time to sight fish them in shallow water. We managed two nice ones yesterday afternoon on pilchards, and caught others this week sight fishing with jigs and live shrimp. The fishing is only going to get better as water temps rise and the weather has been great. Give me a call when booking your next Naples fishing charter, 239-404-6255

January 18, 2010

I fished a few days this week and was eager to get back on the water. With all the cold weather and bad reports to the north I wanted to see what was going on. The fishing was better than expected and we managed some nice redfish plenty of ladyfish, trout and although I didnt fish for them plenty of big sheepshead to be caught. We were using jigs and live shrimp and they were working just fine. The only thing we didnt catch were snook, the cold weather stunned a lot of them and they were very slow moving. The weather this week has been perfect and the water is climbing back into the 60's which should get the snook moving back into certain areas to feed. Also on the nearshore wrecks the gag grouper have been hitting big trolling plugs and there are snapper and sheepshead waiting for a shrimp to be dropped down to them. The forecast for the rest of the months is perfect highs in the mid 70's to low 80's so fishing should be great. Give me a call and lets go fishing 239 404 6255

Fishing Forecast January 2010

It has been very cold in Naples the last two weeks and trips have been getting cancelled due to it. I have had ice on the boat the last few mornings, it will all end in two days though. We are going to get back to average temps on Thursday and into the low 80's by next week. The fish have been holding in deep water creeks and moving into the shallows to stay warm. Once the water temp comes up by late week the fish will be ready to eat, trout, pompano, and sheepshead will all be waiting for us. Then by next week the water should have warmed enough to get the snook and redfish going. On the nearshore wrecks the gag grouper and sheepshead have been the main targets. Big trolling plugs are doing well on the grouper and shrimp have been the best bet on the sheepshead and snapper. I have days open this month, but hope this warm weather gets people back into the mood to fish. Give me a call and lets go fishing 239 404 6255
