Naples Fishing Report 10/28/10

Wow what a great month so far it's been here in Naples. The fishing
has been great both in the backwaters and off the beaches. Tarpon has
been the main target this month with snook and bonita following close
behind. The tarpon have been eating very well in the passes at first
light and late afternoon on live mullet. On days when the water is a
little dirty and rough the mullet come through all day and the tarpon
fishing is great all day, on cleaner calm days the mullet don't come
in so good and the tarpon stay deep. The beaches were a little hit or
miss this week, strong outgoing tides kept the waters dirty and the
bait stayed out in deep water. Tarpon like to stay closer to shore
were the bait is thicker. As the weather cools the tarpon will push
south and we will focus more on snook, redfish and trout in the
backwaters. The bigger fish will be on the inshore wrecks eating live
baits. Kingfish, cobia and bonita will be the targets on these wrecks
with some gag grouper mixed in. Don't hesitate to book your trip this
month as I'm filling up quick, thanksgiving week is when most want to
fish. Call or email me soon 239-404-6255

Naples Fishing Report 10/21/10

I have been out every day this week and the fishing has been great.
The main targets this week were tarpon and bonita. The tarpon were
feeding heavy at first light on the mullet schools and then out on the
beaches in the glass minnow schools. We hooked a good amount of
tarpon, yet didn't bring any to the boat. They were anywhere from
50-150lbs and were eating both live baits and artificials. The bonita
are all over the beaches, just look for the birds. Monday I had
regular angler Paul Webb and he caught close to 20 on fly. They are
anywhere from 6-12lbs. Small spoons and flies are working the best,
but yesterday I had them eating 10" mullet intended for tarpon. Today
I had a great client and angler Tom Mckenna on the boat, we started at
7am for tarpon and he caught this huge snook on a 10" mullet. The fish
was 45" and my guess is 25lbs. It was the biggest snook of the year, I
just wish I had the good camera on the boat as the cell phone pic does
no justice. He also jumped one tarpon in the 80lb range. Look for the
action to stay hot for a while as the bait is very thick and the big
fish are hungry.

Tarpon, Sharks, Bonita 10/16/10

Tarpon fishing has remained red hot here in Naples. The mullet are
here in huge schools and the tarpon are loving it. This is a picture
of mullet two nights ago, they look like rain on top of the water. We
managed to follow a school of mullet north up the beach jumping five
tarpon and three sharks. We them came back into the bay where we
jumped three more and got a four foot bull shark. The tarpon have
been very big with most around 130lbs and some over 160lbs. This
morning in two hours we had eight tarpon eat mullet, we broke off
three and just lost the others. This action should stay good through
the end of October with great tides coming up at the end of this week.
The Bonita are also in big schools off the beaches eating anchovies.
They are a ton of fun on light tackle and average around 10lbs. Mixed
in with them are tarpon, sharks and mackeral. Now is the time to get
out fishing in Naples, call now I only have some days still open 239-404-6255

Naples Fishing Report 10/7/10

The tarpon and big sharks are here causing major problems on fishing
tackle. Yesterday I left the dock at 2pm with a full well of 45 live
mullet, and 25 tarpon hooks. The waters were stirred up with rough
seas, tide running out with big schools of mullet. In 2.5 hours I
broke two reels and went through every hook, my wife had to bring me
more hooks. We hooked 32 big fish, tarpon, bull sharks, and blacktips
were on fire. It was an unbelievable night to say the least. Tonight I
had good friend and guide from Pine Island Rick De Paiva on the boat
to take pictures of the madness. It never went off like last night,
but we hooked a bunch of sharks, and had about 6 tarpon blow up on
baits landing the one in the picture. He takes unbelievable pictures
and is an amazing guide also. The tarpon should be here till the full
moon at the end of October. Don't wait to boo your trip, select tides
for tarpon are filling in. Call now 239-404-6255

Naples Tarpon Fishing 10/5/10

The fishing has been really good the last few weeks and it should only
get better. The only thing bad right now are the winds that won't stop
blowing. It's not messing up the fishing in the backwaters, just
making it impossible to tarpon fish off the beaches. I'm still
catching tarpon, you just have to fish select tides and spots. They
have been averaging 100lbs with some over 140lbs. Live mullet and
ladyfish have been the baits of choice for the silver king. This one
was caught this afternoon on a mullet. Snook fishing is really good
with a 25-40 fish average, just not many big fish yet. This will all
change as fish move in from the shallow water wrecks as the water
cools. Live pilchards are very easy to get and are the snook bait of
choice. Redfish are being caught daily now, some keepers and the most
little ones I've caught in years. It's a good sign to see so many
little ones being caught. The only inshore fish missing are trout and
pompano. They should be showing towards the end of the month as the
waters cool into the mid 70's. I've got a busy week, but next week is
slower and the tides are great and so is the weather. This will
probably be the last month to catch a big tarpon so don't wait to book
your trip. Give me a call and let's go fishing 239-404-6255.
