Naples Fishing Report 4/30/12

As I write this report it is raining hard and blowing hard out of the east with a low pressure system to our south. Over the last month our weather has been very unstable with hard winds from the east, southeast, and northwest. This has only affected the sight fishing and tarpon fishing as unstable conditions push these fish offshore where its to rough to find them. The weather looks to get back to normal on 5/3 and we can start to put a hurting on the tarpon. The snook fishing has remained pretty good around Naples with fish being caught in passes, rock walls, docks and wind blown mangrove points. I haven't caught any real big ones, but plenty to 13lbs have been caught over the last month. I have been getting some really big backwater redfish this month with the biggest going 17lbs. All these fish are being caught on 10lb braided line and 30-40lb leader. We are starting to catch more mangrove snapper close to the passes and they make for a great meal. If you are looking to go fishing give me a call, and if tarpon are on your mind call soon as May and June are peak months here in Naples. Till next time tight lines
