Naples Fishing Report 9/4/12

Summer is almost over and my favorite time of year is fast approaching. The Fall fishing in the Naples area can be the best of the year. All the main fish will be fattening up for Winter as the waters cool and bigger fish move south. It is a great time to fish for tarpon, I won't go into details as the last few years I have had to deal with people following me. Just know this, whether you want to throw lures, fly, or bait I can put you on them. Mixed in with the tarpon are bonita, kingfish, cobia and sharks. In the backwaters the redfish and snook fishing is excellent and trout will be showing up more and more as the waters cool. The fishing lately has been very good since Issac cleared out of the gulf. Snook have been eating good on live pilchards on the lower parts of the tide. I have been exclusively fishing the deeper parts on the backwaters on the low tides and on points with good water movement. They have been on the smaller side, put make up for size with numbers. Redfish have been showing up in good numbers on the flood tide and 1st part of the outgoing tide. I have been fishing live pilchards and finger mullet on a small popping cork. They are laying very tight to the bushes so a good cast helps. I have also caught some on cut ladyfish when the snapper get to out of control. October is my favorite month to fish so don't wait to book your trip. Tight lines
