Naples Fishing Report 1/23/14

This week has been pretty cold and windy. Getting out for live bait was tough with dirty water and rough seas. So most of my trips fished live shrimp and DOA Cals on 1/4oz jig heads. The action was great on snapper, sheepshead, ladyfish and small jewfish. I did catch some trout and pompano, but they were inconsistent. Spots where they should be were tough and spots they came on were nice surprises. On Monday afternoon I was determined to catch live pilchards with nice weather and a great tide knowing the fish had to be hungry for them. I found nice 70' water and was rewarded with redfish, snook, small jewfish, ladyfish and snapper. Looks like the wind will keep me from getting live pilchards through Sat so it's shrimp and jigs the next few days. Looks like warm weather will greet us in February and I'm ready for and know the fish are too
