Naples Winter Fishing 1/17/14

It's safe to say that right now the weather is colder than normal in Naples Fl. Cold for here is 40's in the morning and low to mid 60's for the high. It's ok though just have to change up your fishing a little. Instead of fishing live pilchards everyday, shrimp will be in the livewells too. Instead of daily snook, redfish and jacks being the targets we have to slow it down for black drum, sheepshead, pompano and trout. When the water is 66 or above I'll target snook, redfish and trout with live pilchards. High tides help getting into the backwater creeks where the water is warmer. I've caught a lot of big fish on pilchards including this 25lb snook on days when most guys settle for shrimp. Big redfish have also been abundant on higher stages of the tide. Look for weather to start warming around January 25th and staying that way through the Spring. Also remember its never to early to book your Spring tarpon trips in April, May and June
